Overview

This project involves creating a brand campaign across three media for the revamp of an old brand of my choice. In this case, I chose Blockbuster, with the entire campaign centred around a single product. The product I developed is the Blockbuster Portal, a pair of AR glasses that make movie-watching immersive.

Goal: The goal of this project was to dive into the entertainment industry and the AR glasses market by creating an innovative product for Blockbuster and a campaign built around it to help revitalize the brand. The campaign was designed to encourage users to pre-order the product.

Role: Graphic Designer (solo project).

Project type: Marketing & UI Design

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Figma.

Challenge

The challenge was to ensure that the message and campaign were clear, that the visuals strongly related to the product and brand, and that the overall campaign remained cohesive across all print materials and digital spaces it spanned.

Strategy

I approached Blockbuster Portal like a real campaign. The direction of my work was intended to create hype around the product and encourage people to pre-order. I needed to utilize a thicker sans-serif typeface for impact, along with cinematic visuals that connect to the brand and communicate what the product is.

SWOT Analysis

The first step in this project was researching Blockbuster to understand better what kind of product I could create. Once I had done that, I conducted a SWOT analysis of the brand, looking closely at where it currently stands and identifying gaps I could fill.

Moodboard

After that, I created a mood board that reflected the brand by using its colours, while also aiming to give it a more modern twist without losing
its original essence.

Positioning & Goals

Following that, I determined the positioning for the glasses and established the marketing goal and unique selling point.

Sketches & Wireframe

The next stage was to create sketches of the potential campaign layout. After the sketches, I developed a UI design for the glasses screen, beginning with a low-fidelity version and then moving into a high-fidelity version, which would be incorporated into my full landing page. Final Designs

After that, I created high-fidelity mockups of the campaign across different media, continuing to refine the designs and explore what worked best. Additionally, various social campaign ideas and layouts were explored.

Finally, I created a pitch for the Blockbuster Portal in InDesign, where I explained the goals, provided an overview of the campaign, outlined what it entailed, included the tagline, and summarized the overall plan in a chart.

Key Takeaways

This was a fun project and helped me practice sizing for a brand campaign that involves different mediums. I also focused on hierarchy and applying strong marketing strategies, such as conducting a SWOT analysis and using those findings to develop a product, inform decisions, and ensure all essential information was presented.
