Divine Essence

Overview

This project involved creating the visual identity of a wine brand, including the design of its wine labels and promotional materials.

Goal: The goal of this project was to create a distinct wine brand and design its labels, along with any supporting marketing materials.

Role: Branding & Graphic Designer (solo project).

Project type: Branding & Graphic Design.

Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Express, and
After Effects.

Challenge

For this project, the challenge was to ensure that my design captured the sophistication that defines the Divine Essence brand identity that was created, while also highlighting the brand’s Canadian identity and conveying the premium quality of the product and its ingredients. This needed to be communicated cohesively across all promotional materials as well.

Strategy

I approached Divine Essence like a real wine brand and developed promotional pieces and a brand identity that convey sophistication, comfort, and a premium wine experience. I utilized warm, earthy tones and classy, exquisite typography.

The direction of my work was intended to create a sense of rustic yet polished visuals, while staying true to the brand and maintaining consistency across all brand materials.

The first step was determining the direction of the wine brand’s identity. This included defining the typography, logo, colour palette, positioning, brand values, and more.

Process

To effectively capture Divine Essence’s brand identity and translate it into a design concept, I created a mood board that highlights the brand’s core values and themes. This involved selecting relevant imagery, a cohesive colour palette, and typography to ensure consistency, then developing sketches that clearly reflect the brand’s essence for the wine label and marketing materials.

Next, I used the mood boards and sketches to bring the concepts to life digitally in Illustrator and Photoshop, refining the designs while staying true to the brand. After further refinement, I finalized the labels and developed additional concepts for the wine brand, including social media-style presentations and promotional mockups.

Key Takeaways

This was an interesting but challenging project. I definitely see room for improvement in terms of hierarchy and spacing with some elements, such as the barcodes featured on the wine labels. I realized how much impact my typography, imagery, and colour choices have in conveying the brand’s message.

Overall, I am proud of the final result, as it is a very cohesive system that reflects the Divine Essence brand. I especially felt that the mockups helped bring everything together.
